Outpatient and inpatient orthopedic care

The OrthoIndy Hospital focuses on bone, joint, spine and muscle care and complex surgical procedures including total joint (hip and knee) replacements and spinal operations. Our philosophy is a physician-owned hospital model where patients experience superior service, safety and patient satisfaction because physicians are involved in every aspect of your care.

Two of our facilities -- OrthoIndy Hospital Main and OrthoIndy Hospital South -- provide outpatient care and inpatient care for patients undergoing more invasive procedures, such as disc replacement, spinal fusion or total joint replacement. We have an additional facility for outpatient procedures requiring stays of 23 hours or less.

Preparing for surgery

Preparing for surgery begins as soon as you schedule your procedure.

At OrthoIndy Hospital we want to make sure that every patient and their family has the information needed to make informed health care decisions. The Indiana State Department of Health has provided us with a complete discussion of health care decisions called “Advanced Directives.” You will be provided a copy of this information when you check-in for your surgery, or you may review and complete the information at any time by visiting www.in.gov/isdh/25880.htm.

A proper medical evaluation helps to reduce the risk of problems that may occur after surgery. These include blood clots, heart attack, stroke, breathing difficulties or infection. Your surgeon may recommend that you schedule a preoperative evaluation visit with OrthoIndy hospitalists before your surgery at our preoperative clinic.

There are a number of other steps to take when preparing for surgery. One includes knowing how to prepare to prevent surgical infections.

On the day of surgery you will arrive approximately two hours prior to surgery. One of our concierge staff will greet you at the front desk and give you and your family a tour of the facility. You will then be registered and taken back to a pre-op room where you will prepare for your procedure.

From the moment you arrive, the staff will begin our Safe Surgery Plan. This plan is designed to make sure that all the important information about you and your surgery is communicated to all staff involved in your surgical experience, including personal information, medical history, education for you and your family, explaining procedures, obtaining consents and having you confirm the correct surgical site.
