Navigating I-65, I-70 closures starting July 19th

Starting Friday, Indiana Department of Transportation will close parts of I-65 and I-70 for road patching and repaving. These closures will take two to 17 days, so be aware of detours and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination in case of increased traffic. While there are shorter routes via surface streets, INDOT can only offer state-owned detour recommendations.

Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 12, all lanes of I-65 southbound from the North Split (where I-65 and I-70 meet on the city's north side) to the South Split (where I-65 and I-70 meet on the city's south side) will be closed.

  • INDOT detour: Take I-70 eastbound to I-465 southbound back to I-65 southbound if you're traveling from the north. Or from downtown, get on I-70 westbound and take it to I-465 southbound/eastbound, back to I-65 southbound.
  • Reopening: 6 a.m. on Monday, July 15.

Starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 12, all lanes of I-65 traveling south from South Split at I-70 to I-465 will be closed.

  • Detour: The alternative route is I-70 westbound to I-465 eastbound to get back on to I-65 southbound.
  • Reopening: 3 p.m. on Monday, July 22.

Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 12, all lanes of I-65 going southbound from I-865 to I-465 will be closed.

  • Detour: Drivers can go eastbound on I-865 to I-465 southbound back to I-65 southbound to get around the closures.
  • Reopening: 6 a.m. on Monday, July 29.

Beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 26, all lanes of I-70 east and westbound from I-465 to the South Split will be closed.

  • Detours: Commuters can detour to I-465 eastbound and take I-65 northbound to get to downtown Indianapolis. Take I-65 southbound to I-465 westbound to leave downtown. If you're leaving the Indianapolis International Airport, take I-70 eastbound to I-465 southbound, then travel on I-65 northbound to get downtown.
  • Reopening: 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5.
