Dr. Greg Poulter performs the full spectrum of spine surgery – from minimally invasive and motion-preserving procedures to the most complex spinal reconstructions. A board-certified, fellowship-trained spine specialist, Dr. Poulter combines advanced techniques with innovative technologies to enhance surgical precision and improve patient outcomes.
An Indianapolis Monthly Top Doctor honoree, Dr. Poulter has been at the forefront of groundbreaking advancements in spine surgery. He was the first surgeon worldwide to combine the use of AI and robotics in the application of spine surgery. In 2024, he then helped introduce augmented reality (AR) into spine procedures in Indiana, enhancing surgical accuracy while minimizing incisions.
Outside his clinical practice, Dr. Poulter shares his expertise internationally, hosting surgeons from other countries, such as India and New Zealand, to demonstrate minimally invasive techniques. He has authored multiple textbook chapters and is routinely invited to give guest lectures around the world on the use of advanced technologies and spine surgery.
Dr. Poulter is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, and the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, before graduating magna cum laude from MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine. Dr. Poulter went on to complete an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and an orthopedic spine fellowship at the University of California in San Francisco. Before joining OrthoIndy, Dr. Poulter served as a spine surgeon at Vail-Summit Orthopaedics in Vail, Colorado, where he was a founding member and chairman of the Vail-Summit Research and Education Foundation.
