Meet Dr. Gudeman

Dr. Andrew Gudeman is a fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon specializing in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery and shoulder replacement. He cares for athletes of all ages and abilities – from high school and collegiate players to weekend warriors – helping them recover from injury and return to peak performance.

Dr. Gudeman brings a strong academic and research background to his clinical work. His research has been published in leading medical journals, including the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, and Arthroscopy, and he has authored several textbook chapters in orthopedic sports medicine. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

During his sports medicine fellowship at Duke University, Dr. Gudeman gained experience at the highest levels of athletic care. He served as a team physician for Duke University and North Carolina Central University and contributed as a medical advisor to the NBA Combine.

A Center Grove native, Dr. Gudeman’s path to medicine was shaped by his own athletic journey. He won a state football championship in high school and went on to earn a Division I football scholarship to Miami University (Ohio), where he was honored with the MAC Presidential Award recognizing the top student-athlete on each team in the Mid-American Conference. He earned his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society extending invitations to the top medical students in each class. He also completed his orthopedic surgery residency at IU, where he was named Administrative Chief Resident.

Now back in his hometown with his wife and two children, Dr. Gudeman is proud to serve OrthoIndy patients with expert care informed by elite training, personal experience and a deep passion for helping athletes heal and thrive.
