Meet Dr. Wagner
Dr. Daniel J. Wagner is a fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon specializing in the treatment of shoulder and knee conditions, including rotator cuff tears, labral tears, shoulder instability and arthritis, ACL and other ligament injuries, meniscus tears, and cartilage injuries. He has a particular interest in shoulder arthroplasty and cartilage preservation and restoration, and he especially enjoys caring for athletes and active individuals working to return to the activities they love. He also treats general orthopedic complaints, delivers fracture care, and performs hip and knee replacements.
Committed to offering the latest evidence-based care, Dr. Wagner performs advanced arthroscopic procedures for the shoulder and knee and is incorporating robotic-assisted knee replacement technology into his practice. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
During his sports medicine fellowship at Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Denver, Dr. Wagner gained experience caring for athletes at every level. He served as head team physician for a Denver-area high school and as an assistant team physician for the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies.
A Purdue University alumnus, Dr. Wagner’s path to medicine was shaped by his own love of sports growing up and the camaraderie of being part of a team. That passion, paired with an interest in science that took hold in his high school biology, chemistry and anatomy courses, led him to a career where he could work as part of a team, help patients and build lasting relationships. He earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at The Ohio State University, where he was selected as education chief resident, before pursuing his fellowship training in Denver.
Now practicing in West Lafayette — home to his alma mater — Dr. Wagner is excited to return to Purdue country. Outside of work, he cherishes time with his wife and two young sons and enjoys traveling with family and friends. He remains an avid Purdue, Colts and Pacers fan, and stays active through golf and basketball.
