Meet Dr. Perni
Dr. Praveen Perni is a fellowship-trained, board-certified spine surgeon specializing in the treatment of the cervical and lumbar spine. He treats a wide range of neck and low back conditions, including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, degenerative spine conditions and scoliosis. Dr. Perni utilizes the latest surgical techniques and technologies in spine care, including minimally invasive spine surgery, disc replacement, robotic-assisted navigation technology and endoscopic spine surgery designed to improve surgical accuracy and patient outcomes. He was the first surgeon in Indiana to gain access to one of the leading robotic spine navigation platforms and continues to utilize advanced robotic-assisted navigation technology in his practice today.
Born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, Dr. Perni comes from a family of physicians and witnessed firsthand the meaningful impact that compassionate care can have on patients and their families. His parents instilled in him an appreciation for using knowledge and skill to help others during vulnerable moments in life. That foundation ultimately led him to pursue a career in medicine and, later, spine surgery – a field that allows him to combine technical precision with the opportunity to restore function and improve quality of life.
Dr. Perni has practiced in Central Indiana since 2010. He completed his undergraduate degree in three years while playing Division I college tennis on a full athletic scholarship. After earning his medical degree in Ohio, he completed his residency training at Michigan State University before pursuing advanced spine fellowship training at the prestigious San Francisco Spine Institute.
In 2025, Dr. Perni was recognized as one of Newsweek’s Leading Doctors for Spine Surgery, an honor recognizing the top 200 spine surgeons in America based on patient outcomes, quality assessments and peer recommendations. He is an active member of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and provides spine lectures and surgical training locally and nationally for patients, students and physicians. He was involved in many administrative roles at his prior practice, including serving as medical director of the orthopaedic/spine division for 14 years. Outside of work, Dr. Perni enjoys spending time with his wife and sons, along with playing tennis and running.
