Drug disposal options
Do you have medicine you want to get rid of? If you have old, unused, unwanted or expired medicine, it's important to know where you can dispose of it. According to the FDA, the best way to dispose of most types of medicines is to drop off the medicine at a drug take-back site immediately.
Find a Drug Take-Back Location
If you do not have a location near you, determine if your medicine is on the FDA Flush list.
- If the answer is YES, immediately flush your medicine in the toilet. Scratch out all personal info on the bottle and recycle/throw it away.
- If your medicine is NOT on the FDA Flush list, follow the FDA instructions for disposing of medicine in the household trash.
