Dr. Helms received his bachelor’s in biology in 1993 from Indiana University. In 1997, he received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine in 2000 at Methodist Hospital.
He then joined one of the earliest hospitalists programs in the state at Methodist Hospital, where he was later appointed program director from 2004 to 2007. Dr. Helms moved to IU North as a hospitalist with a special interest in peri-operative care. In 2012 he joined Advanced Healthcare Associates and worked on collaborative efforts focused on taking care of IU North patients in the posthospitalization and rehab setting.
Prior to joining OrthoIndy, Dr. Helms served as the medical director for the IU North Transitional Care Program, American Senior Communities Allisonville Meadows, The Stratford at the Village of West Clay, Kindred Bridgewater and Kindred Eagle Creek.
Dr. Helms is a member of the American Medical Association, Society of Hospital Medicine, American Medical Directors Association and the Indiana State Medical Society.
